Printer rescue workflow
- 1
Check the printer's screen
Clear any jam, paper or ink errors first.
- 2
Restart printer and computer
Turn both off, wait 30 seconds, turn them back on.
- 3
Confirm same Wi-Fi network
The printer and your device must be on the same network (2.4 GHz for many printers).
- 4
Clear the print queue
Cancel stuck jobs in your computer's printer settings.
- 5
Re-add the printer
Remove it and add it again so your computer finds its current address.
- 6
Install the maker's latest driver or app
Get it from the printer brand's own support site.
Printer shows 'Offline'
Make sure the printer and computer are on the same Wi-Fi network. Mesh systems and guest networks often split them.
Print a network configuration page from the printer's menu. It shows whether it's connected and its IP address.
Remove the printer from your computer and add it again. This clears a stale connection.
Jobs stuck in the queue
Open the print queue, cancel everything, and restart the printer. On Windows, restarting the Print Spooler service clears jobs that refuse to cancel.
Blank, streaky or faded pages
Run the printer's built-in head cleaning tool once or twice. Doing it many times wastes ink.
Check that cartridges are seated properly and the protective tape is removed from new ones.
Inkjets that sit unused for weeks often clog. Printing a page once a week helps.

Common questions
Why does my printer keep going offline?
Usually Wi-Fi sleep settings or a changing IP address. Turning off the printer's deep sleep or reserving its IP in your router settings often stops it.
